Founded
Our Story
Built on curiosity, storytelling, and a shared passion for spirits
Founded in 2020 by Crystal and Roger Corbin, The Liquor Connoisseur® is an independent spirits education and media platform built on curiosity, storytelling, and a shared passion for understanding the world of distilled spirits.
Their educational journey includes earning Master of Arts and Master of Science credentials from Whiskey University, becoming Chartered Master Bourbon Tasters and Associate Bourbon Stewards, and completing Pronghorn's Spirits Prep program. Crystal also serves as Oklahoma State Leader for Whiskey University.
Together, they bring complementary perspectives to spirits education — combining storytelling, sensory exploration, industry knowledge, and firsthand experience as founders of Perspection Spirits. Through interviews, reviews, educational content, and conversations with the people shaping the industry, Crystal and Roger help audiences explore not only what is in their glass, but why it matters.
You don't have to be an expert to appreciate great spirits. You just have to be curious.

Crystal Corbin

For Crystal, understanding a spirit begins long before the first sip. It begins with curiosity about the people, history, craftsmanship, and stories behind the bottle.
With a bachelor's degree in Journalism and an extensive professional background in business strategy, technology, and organizational transformation, Crystal brings a research-driven and inquisitive perspective to spirits. Her journalism education shaped her approach to storytelling and her belief that the most compelling discoveries often come from asking one more question.
Through conversations with distillers, master blenders, brand founders, and industry professionals, she explores the science, history, culture, and business behind distilled spirits. She also serves as the Oklahoma State Leader for Whiskey University, supporting its mission of expanding whiskey education and appreciation.
Whether interviewing an industry veteran, reviewing an unfamiliar expression, or exploring a spirit's origins, Crystal believes education should inspire discovery rather than intimidation. Her mission is to help people develop confidence in their own palates, appreciate the stories behind their favorite spirits, and find enjoyment in learning something new.

For Roger, the journey into spirits appreciation is about more than tasting what's in the glass. It's about discovering the craftsmanship, culture, and human experiences that make every spirit unique.
Roger brings curiosity, thoughtful conversation, and an approachable perspective to spirits exploration. Since founding The Liquor Connoisseur in 2020, he has helped introduce audiences to the stories of distillers, blenders, entrepreneurs, and innovators across the beverage alcohol industry.
His interests extend well beyond whiskey. Through the show, Roger explores bourbon, Scotch, tequila, rum, cognac, gin, vodka, and craft spirits, bringing an open-minded perspective to every new experience.
Roger believes being a connoisseur isn't defined by owning rare bottles or memorizing tasting terminology. It's about the willingness to learn, explore unfamiliar flavors, and respect the different experiences people bring to the glass.
